What has worked well for you in creating a happier, better work environment?

Yesterday, I had a meeting with my supervisor that left me feeling relieved. As I explained the significant improvements in my job performance, she nodded and smiled, which felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. For months prior to that, I had been feeling anxious and rushed, even though patients weren’t demanding I work faster. Anxiety can be a real pain. I realized that I was worried about time/after-call work, so I came up with a solution and created a visual table of my work week. I added my scheduled hours and noted how long it took me to notate each chart and why I needed extra time. This helped me to identify that I didn’t actually need that much extra time, and that I was just feeling overwhelmed.

I’m really proud of myself for taking action and applying what usually helps me to my workday. As a result of my improvements, I’ve been given the opportunity to help other coworkers improve their work quality, which is pretty awesome.

There is one more challenge that has been frustrating me lately. It’s the entitled Karens and Kens of the world. Some people just don’t seem to understand that their energy can impact others around them. But, I’m not going to let that bring me down. I’ll just take a deep breath and walk confidently into today.
